Jiu-Jitsu in Hijab…Female Competitors at the Abu Dhabi Pro

[caption id="attachment_806" align="alignleft" width="150" caption="Hijab"]Hijab[/caption]It’s easy for those of us ladies training BJJ in the “Western” or “Developed” (or whatever the current politically correct term is for our society) to get frustrated at a lack of support or training partners for females. And we are correct to be so in many cases, but those ladies coming out to compete at the Abu Dhabi Pro this weekend in hijab (head covering worn by Muslim women) under their gis, are the true barrier breakers. In a society where women are not often allowed/encouraged to participate in sport, especially a combative sport, these ladies were out on the mats representing themselves and their culture well, paving the way for more to follow in their footsteps.
